Util-Assist is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract for delivery services for peaksaverPLUS® for Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc., Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. and Waterloo North Hydro Inc.

The peaksaverPLUS® initiative builds on the success of the previous Ontario Power Authority (OPA) peaksaver® initiative, which consisted of the free installation of a load control thermostat or switch.  The new peaksaverPLUS® initiative offers customers both a Load Control Device (LCD) to facilitate load reduction and an In-Home Display (IHD) to provide consumers their current electricity consumption, time-of-use pricing, and historical energy usage.  The initiative helps to reduce stress on Ontario’s electricity grid during periods of high demand by automatically cycling central air conditioners and electric water heaters. All three utilities are now ramping up their operational and marketing efforts, with a goal of launching the initiative in June 2013.

Util-Assist will be responsible for renewing past peaksaver® participants in the new peaksaverPLUS® initiative. We will provide all services, including customer recruitment and marketing, inventory management, device installation, customer education, and regulatory reporting.

With over 30 local distribution companies in Ontario having selected Util-Assist to manage the OPA’s initiative on their behalf, Util-Assist’s expertise and track record stood out in the utilities’ decision in awarding the contract. Sarah Colvin, Supervisor Energy Efficiency at Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro, stated, “We were really pleased with Util-Assist’s approach to managing all aspects of the peaksaverPLUS® initiative. Their knowledge of Home Area Network (HAN) technologies and experience in delivering the peaksaver® initiative impressed our Evaluation Committee.  We look forward to working with Util-Assist over the next two years.”
