Util-Assist is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Smart Meter and ADMS Consulting Services RFP issued by the Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL).  BWL is a publicly-owned municipal utility that provides electricity and water to the greater Lansing, Michigan area. The utility provides electric service to approximately 95,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Util-Assist has already commenced guiding BWL through a Smart Metering pilot. BWL expects that Smart Grid will provide measurable benefits to utility infrastructure, operations, load profile, renewable integration, security, and customer engagement. With Util-Assist’s support, BWL will use the pilot results to evaluate the business case for expanding Smart Metering into a full-scale implementation.

Additionally, Util-Assist is leading BWL through the process of evaluating existing utility systems to enhance distribution modernization efforts and help position the utility for future Smart Grid initiatives.  Specifically, Util-Assist will help to evaluate how an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) could aid by integrating these and other technologies into a single platform to manage and optimize the transmission and distribution network.

With in-depth knowledge and a vast network of industry relationships, Util-Assist is well-positioned to lead BWL through this engagement. Using the knowledge leveraged from over 50 Ontario Smart Meter implementations, we are proud to further expand operations in other parts of North America.  BWL joins clients such as North Little Rock Electric, the City of Saskatoon, and FortisBC as utilities outside of Ontario that has selected Util-Assist as their consultant of choice.
