Util-Assist is proud to have been selected by our hometown, the Town of Newmarket, to deliver professional consulting services to assist with the Town’s migration to smart water meters. Util-Assist will help develop an effective Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) strategy, assist with vendor procurement, and provide implementation support services.
The focus of the Town’s migration project is to replace or upgrade 26,000 water meters. This project will empower customers with consumption data to help them detect leaks and save on their water bills. The transition to AMI will bring a variety of benefits to both the Town and its residents by increasing billing efficiency and accuracy while at the same time reducing the time and money spent monitoring and maintaining the municipal water system. A 2015 report released by the municipality estimated a $500,000 per year loss in revenue as the old meters slow with age and under-report water usage.
In addition to offering guidance on the selection of services and technology providers, Util-Assist will assess the Town’s current metering environment and help the Town follow best practices throughout its migration project by referencing what other municipalities have done to successfully transition to water AMI. Util-Assist was evaluated and awarded this consulting role based on numerous merits, including the expertise of its staff and more than ten years of experience guiding other utilities through similar processes.
